When spreading EPDM on the curved edges of my RV roof how do I stop it from running down the side while drying?

Someone else asked this question in Aug 2017 but the answer didn't make much sense.  Who answers these questions, EPDM team or just users of the product?

it should not run you would actually have to double the required mil rate for it to run on a vertical but most people will prep the perimeter with the blue painters tape to prevent it from getting away
